Match Report 26.2.2012
Burntwood Dragons Vs Norton Canes.
Under 7’s.
A beautiful sunny morning to play football saw two local teams meet for the first time this year. At our new home ground the Dragons won the toss and kicked off the game. Dragons started a bit slow a new formation and players trying new positions may have been the reason but it didn’t take long for the boys to work it out. Aron Reynolds playing as a lone striker took full advantage of his new role and went very close in the first 5 minutes. Aron was in the thick of it again and an unselfish pass played in Jacob Rawlings who guided the ball home with some finesse 1-0. Norton worked very hard in midfield trying to win the ball back but excellent work from Ted Turner meant it was difficult for the opposition to get a hold of the ball. Dragons then broke down the right with an amazing run from Jacob Rawlings only to be brought down just outside the box on the wide right. Joe Bennett stepped up and curled the ball home from an almost impossible angle. Straight from the kick Norton pressed on hard some solid defending by Thomas-Drew Payne saw the pressure transfer to the other end as again Aron and Ted linked up well and the loose ball fell to Joe Bennett who smashed the ball into the top corner from way outside the box. The whistle blew for half time with the Dragons 3-0 up. Second Half saw Kyle Heaselgrave, Corey Ball and Mason Round take to the field after being first half subs, and they made an immediate impact. Joe and Corey linked up for a well worked short corner which resulted in Joe shooting from long range only to be denied his hat trick by excellent goal keeping but the re- bound fell to Kyle and he poked it away.. As the match drew out Dragons were passing the ball around well listening and working tirelessly for one another, this hard work paid off when Dragons won a corner in the last minutes of the game. Joe and Corey again used the short corner this time Corey shot off his left foot and the ball was goal bound but goal poacher Kyle Heaselgrave redirected it into the other corner to make it 5-0, great instinct. Full time and a well deserved win for the Dragons.
Man of the match- Jacob Rawlings.
Listening medal- Aron Reynolds.
Well Done Boys!!
